Grand Openning of 826 Boston's Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute Apr 12, 2008
826 Boston, the non-profit tutoring and writing center that last fall moved into Urban Edge’s Egleston Crossing retail space at 3035 Washington Street, officially opened its “Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute” on April 12 with a ribbon-cutting officiated by Mayor Menino. Highlights of the opening day included a presentation by a cryptozoologist on the difference between mythical and cryptid animals, an author’s reading from a children’s book about the Loch Ness monster, another reading by a National Book Award winner, and readings by two of the many students who come to the writing center and take part in its in-school activities. This one-of-a-kind program for Boston has attracted a strong cadre of volunteers and widespread attention from the media, including NPR affiliate WBUR, which is to feature a segment on 826 Boston.
