Building Wealth through Homeownership

We know the #1 way most families build wealth they can pass on to the next generation is through homeownership. Since we shifted our Homebuyer 101 classes to Zoom in May, hundreds of well-informed prospective buyers have hit the market. The unstoppable drive of our community is inspiring and more than 60 have purchased their first home—in the middle of a pandemic! Pictured here are Niva and her family who moved into their new home in October. Congrats Niva!

We have started construction on Holtzer Park! This new LEED Gold building opening in 2022 will bring 62 affordable rental homes to Jackson Square and is part of the larger BHA 125 Amory campus being developed with our partners at JPDNC and The Community Builders (TCB).

Advocating for Our Allies

Urban Edge Urges Supportive Housing
Please read our CEO Emilio Dorcely’s
op-ed in Banker & Tradesman advocating for the supportive housing proposed by Pine Street Inn and TCB in Jamaica Plain.

Research in Community Development

New research details effect of ‘Black tax’ on African American homeownership

Please take a moment to read The Hill’s article on research conducted by MIT. The “Black tax” is not surprising to us. But that still doesn’t make it right. That’s why we work hard alongside Black and Brown families to get them into the best mortgage products out there.

Staying Active

We just wrapped up our weekly fall bike rides. Thanks to all the kids who came out (some who learned for the first time) for a ride around Roxbury and thanks to Youth Enrichment Services (YES) for the fantastic partnership!

Roxbury/JP Family Resiliency Fund Update

A Boost of Cash and Our Local Economy

We’ve distributed 1,200 cash cards to families, who in turn injected $180,000 into the local economy. With the holidays and winter upon us, we’re ready to meet the evolving needs the pandemic will bring.

Turkey Tuesday Goes Mobile!

This year, we teamed up with About Fresh so more than 200 families have hearty holiday meals. After selecting fresh fruits and veggies, families left with a Stop & Shop card to pick up a turkey nearby.

PPE Safety Kits for Our Elders

Resident leaders and staff led the charge to distribute “safety kits” to the 200+ elders who live in Urban Edge housing. Thanks to this “care for your neighbor” approach, seniors now have sanitizer, wipes, cleaning products, and lots of masks.

We’re Still Here For You

We’ve temporarily shifted to working from home and our HQ is not open to the general public. We’ll continue to carry out our mission through virtual platforms, telephone, and socially-distanced as needed. Stay safe!
