Strong Start Program

The Strong Start Program was launched in 2013 to provide an opportunity for parents to help develop children’s literacy skills, expose preschool children to a school setting, build parenting skills and knowledge about child development, and build social cohesion amongst families. In partnership with Jump Start and Families First, Urban Edge offers a 12-week literacy pre-K readiness program that combines direct services with students and a parent component for 20 families – a total of 20 children under 5 years old. With Urban Edge staff and Jump Start volunteers, the children and their parents engage in reading, arts and crafts, and storytelling. The Pre-K Readiness Program is held virtually. In 2020, we had 36 families enrolled in the strong start program.
